Life is a journey and we learn as we go. What we don’t learn or refuse to acknowledge I believe keeps REPEATING in our lives until we do get it - then we move on to the next life lesson and so it goes on. I have done a lot of REPEATING!
Throughout my life from a young age I have had many health issues, Asthma, Eczema, Migraines, Back Surgery, Chronic Pain, High Blood Pressure….the list goes on!
Like many I ended up taking a lot of medications. My health was in the hands of doctors, specialists and medical professionals. They were the ones I thought that knew best and had all the answers! It was easier to hand my problems over to them to figure out the solutions, follow the advise given and take the medication offered. In most cases it helped ease the symptoms, but never got rid of the issue OR ever looked at what was causing the problem in the first place.
Don’t get me wrong, I have had emergency situations where I have relied on the medical professionals. They have saved mine and other family members lives, so I do appreciate them and acknowledge that we need them.
Back in 2003 I had a fall which resulted in 2 spinal surgeries. After the 2nd I was left with nerve damage and chronic pain. I was taking a lot of medication to get me through my day and as time went on the medication increased and my quality of life seemed to decline. Pain is exhausting….I hated taking pills but it was what I did to cope with day to day living.
My last appointment with my Orthopaedic Surgeon, wasn’t very enlightening. He said, “unfortunately, you are one of the percentile that the surgery hasn’t worked for continue taking medication and carry on the best you can”. That was it, I was discharged from his care. I just to deal with it! So I did to the best of my ability. It was hard, there were tears, tantrums and frustrations. On a daily basis. It not only affected me but the whole family. My life revolved around my pain on a day to day basis. The thing with constant pain is it takes over your life.
Over the years I have tried many things, finding different ways to manage pain, from eliminating inflammatory foods, learning mindfulness and meditation and will continue to learn as much as I can to nourish, strengthen and heal my body.
I no longer take any medication, have changed my diet, lifestyle and learnt what I need to do for my body. Our bodies are miraculous and when given the right environment will heal and thrive.
Good health is our OWN responsibility and we can all live a happier healthier life by making better choices.
This body of ours is the only one we get and I want to show others simple things they can do, to live a longer happier life.
Knowledge is only power when that knowledge in put into action.
My passion is cooking, food and living life to the best of my ability. I aim to help and show others how to live a full, healthy and happy life.
